Citizenship and DACA renewals
For residents ready to vote, and for Dreamers keeping their work permits current.
Most residents can apply for citizenship after five years, or three if they're married to a citizen. Before we file, I check your record for anything that could cause a problem at the interview, from an old arrest to a long trip abroad.
Then we study. The civics questions come from a published list, and the officer asks some of them. We practice them out loud, in English, until they feel easy.

What's included

The application

The interview
We go over your file together, and I can sit beside you at the interview.

Questions
Citizenship and DACA questions
I had a ticket or an arrest years ago. Can I still apply?
Often, yes, but tell me before we file. Some old matters don't affect the application, and a few do. I'll check, and we decide together.
My English isn't strong. Is there another way?
Some older residents who have lived here many years can take the civics test in Spanish. If not, we practice until you're ready.
When should I renew DACA?
Start about five months before your work permit expires. Waiting longer risks a gap with no permit.
Ready to raise your right hand?
Bring your green card and a list of trips abroad. We'll see whether you can file now.
